The SAMCA's Junior Metropolitan Cups for boys were completed on Friday after a warm but entertaining week of cricket, with Adelaide Turf claiming the Under 12's Boys, with their win against Para Districts at Eyre Park on the last day ensuring an unbeaten record in the round robin carnival.
Weather played a part with a heated out day providing draws in both grades of 12's and 14's boys matches on the Thursday, but Fridays rain held off to allow the remaining matches to finish, albeit one match was sprinkler affected at not one, but two venues!
Congratulations to Under 12's runner up Western Suburbs Junior CA, and North Eastern Juniors on their tight tussle for second both with good wins recorded, and to South Central and Para Districts on the competitive efforts from their developing teams in this age group.
Adelaide Turf also secured the win in the 14's Boys earlier in the week on Wednesday, their third win in as many days, the cancellation of their game on the Thursday in 40+ degrees giving them a draw result, with their bye on Friday they were also undefeated. Western Suburbs was also runner up in this age group, with South Central showing plenty of fight against Turf finishing third, unfortunate to miss playing their fourth game for the week against North Eastern with sprinkler affected wickets on both NEJCA's back up grounds. Para Districts also had some good batting performances from a young side and more wickets will come as players develop in this type of competition.
Special thanks to the SACA and their Umpiring department for their provision of umpires and scheduling, the officials did their usual professional tasks with commendation, as well as the SACA local staff who have assisted, and to the many volunteers behind the scenes supporting our association volunteer coaches, their scorers and the wonderful host club volunteers, our Board thanks you all.
Next week see's the SAMCA Under 16's Boys and Girl's competitions commence, with boys from Adelaide Turf North and South teams playing a round robin competition against South Central and Para Districts teams.
Continuing on from last season's inaugural SAMCA Under 16's Girl's competition, players in the Strikers Girl's Leagues representing Adelaide Turf, North Eastern, South Central clubs and Para Districts clubs will play against each other in three games this week, before the finals for placings are decided later in the season.
