ANCA Kings are SAMCA 2022 T20 Champions!

The South Australian Metropolitan Cricket Association Inc (SAMCA) would like to congratulate the Adelaide Nepalese Cricket Association's ANCA Kings team on their stunning victory in the Grand Final of the Metro T20 Champions Cup, defeating the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association's Para Hills Cricket Club in a highly entertaining match played at the Glenelg District Cricket Club on the beautiful surface of ACH Group Stadium.

Despite a gloomy start weather wise, the rain held off as the Kings batted first, their exciting running between wickets and regular creative shots paying dividends, Para Hills defending well in the field, and restricting the King's total by dismissing them in the 20th over for 135 runs. The skipper led the way, Sunam Gautam top scoring with his 75.

A promising start for Para Hills with the bat reaching 30 before the loss of the first wicket, some steady batting from the middle order had the Hornets on track at the 13th over, and at 5/102 seemed to be cruising, then it was Gautam in the action again with 4 wickets, including a hattrick, and a spectacular outfield catch to Deepak saw a flurry of quick wickets, with Para Hills suddenly all out in the 19th for 117 runs.

Sunam Gautam was named Player of the Match and the large crowd of Nepalese supporters, along with a fair showing of black and gold Hornets fans, helped create a wonderful atmosphere for the whole match. The presentations were an exciting spectacle for the Nepalese players, and another SAMCA highlight of the 2022 community cricket season.

Umpires Ken Barthelson from ATCA and Merlin Amos from PDCA also had good days, with the game played in the best possible spirit of cricket.

A huge thank you to all the supporters on both teams for their efforts in attending, the players were very appreciative.

Special thanks to our major sponsors KOOKABURRA Sports for their sponsorship of competition cricket balls, grand finalists' cricket ball prizes and funding of our Grand Final event, AH Trophies for their awards, and the Glenelg District Cricket Club who as hosts went out of their way to ensure the day was enjoyed by all players and fans, thanks to Peter G, Ashley C, Alan S and Co, a great team. Also kind thanks to GMS Catering for provision of food services on the day for supporters, and providing platters for players and match officials.

On behalf of the SAMCA Board we wish all players the best of luck for the remainder of their summer competitions, and look forward to seeing the Nepalese defence of their title in 2022/23.
